Trump dismisses AI catastrophe warnings and opposes additional safeguards
Trump dismisses AI catastrophe warnings; Vance urges labs to stop dangerous development and provide defenses while crediting Amodei’s sincerity.
Trump rejects additional AI guardrails
On September 14, President Donald Trump rejects calls for additional AI guardrails, arguing that his leadership and the administration’s existing criminal and regulatory powers are sufficient. He singles out Amodei for criticism and frames continued AI development as a competition the United States must win against China. Donald Trump
Trump also alleges a conspiracy against AI and data centers and warns critics and leakers. The post names no new executive order or enforcement action and supplies no evidence for the alleged conspiracy. Donald Trump

Trump dismisses extinction concerns as a hoax
In a second September 14 post, Trump explicitly calls concerns about AI taking over the world or destroying humanity a “HOAX.” He questions why industry leaders would seek regulation that could threaten their businesses, and says AI and data-center development will not be stopped during his term. Trump also attributes Google’s Finnish expansion to difficulties obtaining US permits. Google’s September 9 announcement confirms at least €13 billion of investment for 2027–2028, building on its presence in Finland since 2009. It describes infrastructure and energy partnerships, but does not give US permitting problems as the reason for the investment. Donald Trump / Truth Social Google
His assertion that Xi Jinping has just announced that China will do nothing to impede AI is not accompanied by a link or quotation. In his July 17 address, Xi called for laws, monitoring and emergency-response systems to keep AI under human control. That earlier speech establishes a stated commitment to safety; it does not verify the newer announcement Trump describes. Trump’s further posts target critics and dismiss takeover scenarios
In further September 14 posts, Trump alleges that people warning about AI and opposing data centers work for interests hostile to the United States. He identifies neither those interests nor evidence supporting the allegation. Donald Trump / Truth Social

Another post explicitly dismisses scenarios in which AI destroys humanity or robots enter cities and eliminate people. He compares these warnings with what he calls a climate-change hoax. Donald Trump / Truth Social

Trump also portrays AI takeover warnings as a Democratic political campaign. A separate post repeats the comparison with climate warnings. These posts express his rejection of the warnings; they announce no new safety measure or regulatory action. Donald Trump / Truth Social Donald Trump / Truth Social

Vance questions industry calls for regulation
Forbes reports that Vice President JD Vance also questioned AI companies’ requests for government regulation on September 14, describing them as potentially concealing another agenda. He emphasized maintaining the US lead over China while acknowledging that technologies carry risks and saying the administration should manage them. His remarks add skepticism about the proposed regulation, without establishing that companies’ stated safety concerns are insincere. Forbes / Conor Murray
Vance urges labs to stop dangerous development and provide defenses
In a clip published by All-In on September 15, Vance argues that labs should stop building AI they consider dangerous and provide defensive tools if the threat already exists. He challenges the idea that the answer is a global AI governance structure. He also says that people he knows describe Amodei as earnest and that he regards Amodei’s concern as sincere, rather than a cynical attempt at regulatory capture. The All-In Podcast
Vance alleges that companies seeking defenses against the cyber capabilities of Anthropic’s newest models are being denied access to those tools. The clip does not identify the companies or establish the circumstances of those access decisions. His position calls for action by the labs themselves; it does not announce a new government policy. September 19–20: polls on renaming AI
On September 19, Trump asked readers to choose a replacement for artificial intelligence: Superior Intelligence, Extreme Intelligence or Supreme Intelligence. Donald Trump · X

On September 20, he said Supreme Intelligence was losing badly to both alternatives, removed it and announced a new vote. Neither naming post addresses the reported incidents, proposed safety evaluations or requests for oversight. Donald Trump · X Donald Trump · X

According to the person who supplied it, the first-poll screenshot was taken approximately 15 minutes after Trump’s September 20 follow-up. It shows Superior at 41.3%, Supreme at 30.8% and Extreme at 27.8%, with 211,161 votes and one day remaining. Supreme was ahead of Extreme in this near-contemporaneous tally, contradicting his description of it as losing to both alternatives. The capture does not establish that he knowingly misstated the results. Donald Trump · X (supplied screenshot) Donald Trump · X

September 25 cooperation agreement. The White House subsequently announced an agreement with China to establish an AI-incident communication channel and continue bilateral dialogue. Neither government’s published account establishes that the channel is operating or specifies reporting thresholds or deadlines. The White House Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China
September 29: voluntary safety accord. Trump subsequently signed a voluntary agreement with six company representatives, committing them to internal controls, independent external evaluation and board oversight. The document leaves possible legislation for later and does not grant a government body authority to approve releases. Donald J. Trump Speaker Mike Johnson
