Trump dismisses extinction concerns as a hoax

In a second September 14 post, Trump explicitly calls concerns about AI taking over the world or destroying humanity a “HOAX.” He questions why industry leaders would seek regulation that could threaten their businesses, and says AI and data-center development will not be stopped during his term. Trump also attributes Google’s Finnish expansion to difficulties obtaining US permits. His assertion that Xi Jinping has just announced that China will do nothing to impede AI is not accompanied by a link or quotation. In his July 17 address, Xi called for laws, monitoring and emergency-response systems to keep AI under human control. That earlier speech establishes a stated commitment to safety; it does not verify the newer announcement Trump describes. Forbes reports that Vice President JD Vance also questioned AI companies’ requests for government regulation on September 14, describing them as potentially concealing another agenda. He emphasized maintaining the US lead over China while acknowledging that technologies carry risks and saying the administration should manage them.
